Dwarves and dinosaurs – two unlikely graphic novels you might like

It’s another Monday! The last one this month, so it shouldn’t be too bad, right? Well, mine isn’t bad, so I’m quite satisfied :D.

Today I’ve got for you two graphic novels I’ve read… let’s say within last month. Both have something that I found different and maybe a bit unusual. Brigada’s specialty is the curious graphic style – forget about your usually lovely-looking elves, meet a bunch of dwarves on a mission. And “Love: The Dinosaur” is yet another of the wordless novels that prove you don’t need text to understand the meaning.

Brigada by Enrique Fernández

A rather enjoyable story that gets better and better with every page. I admit I needed a moment to get used to this graphic, but I really like it. It’s original and feels fresh among all those other look-alike graphics out there.

2016’s goodies – the books I fell in love with

Looking back at my favorite reads from this year I have to say I’m rather surprised. Most of the books on that special shelf were from Fantasy genre and now I’ve got surprisingly many Sci-Fi novels. And it seems I’ve discovered a new love for cozy mysteries, especially by one author :D.

I wanted to make this list a “top-something” list (and surprisingly I’ve got 10 books to present, so it might’ve worked), but I can’t decide on the order, so instead I’ll just show off the few super-awesome books that really grabbed me this year and only this year – no re-reads.

A bit of a warning – this post is all about positive thoughts! There will be no whining, complaining, etc 😉

Stars, time travel and a mystery to solve

I didn’t expect to like this story so much. I like Star Trek shows, but I’ve never read graphic novels or books, so that was something new to me and I didn’t know what to expect. It was worth it 🙂

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy by Mike Johnson, Ryan Parrott, Derek Charm

This story mixes two timelines, one when Uhura, Spock, and Kirk are still at the academy – Uhura stumbles upon a strange transmission and tries to solve the mystery. Unfortunately, the academy doesn’t want this information to get out.  And the other part of the story that takes place a few years later and follows brand new recruits with T’laan being the main heroine here. These guys are still in training and on one of their missions they get into a space-time disturbance and find the source of Uhura’s signal from years ago. The thing is, for the people inside not much time had passed.

More Dresden and freaky Fey

There’s one word that comes to my mind after reading this: FUN! Yet another Dresden graphic novel I enjoyed a lot. Although I somehow imagined Thomas differently, but I can live with that.

A set of strange murders stirs unease among Chicago’s strongest forces. Once again Harry has to use his magical diplomatic skills to help save everyone ;P. We all know how good diplomat he is, right?

As pretty much every Dresden story this one is also entertaining, filled with action and near-death experiences. Some magic casting, a glimpse into Murphy’s past and tough negotiations (although they might’ve ended up surprisingly fast) will keep your attention. We’ll even meet Harry’s fairy godmother :).
