Top 5 Wednesday: Fictional Items You’d Give as Gifts

imgresChristmas are coming! I don’t know about you, but I still have few gifts to buy… It’s fascinating how little time for anything I have this year. Anyway, there are few fantastic items I wish were real, so I could wrap them up and make someone extremely happy.

5. Babel fish

babel-fishFrom Hitchhikers guide through the galaxy – a strange little creature that would make my job completely useless 😛

If you love to travel all over the Earth and beyond this fish is just what you need – an instant translation to and from any language.

Audio Thursday 15th of December

Another Thursday and another week closer to Christmas :D. And surprisingly, I haven’t heard “Last Christmas” playing yet… strange. No matter, it will be going through my head now anyway.

But I was going to write a bit about my last audio finds – the books from Playster and the BBC dramas I’ll be listening to soon.

A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan – DNF at ~40%

a-natural-history-of-dragonsI really hoped this one will be good, or interesting or maybe exciting, but the truth is it wasn’t. The idea was great – memoirs of a woman learning about dragons, tracking them, documenting her story. But I have few issues with this book. Continue reading “Audio Thursday 15th of December”

Two weeks of free audio books had gone by…

Yes, it’s already been two weeks and I haven’t even listened to half of the books I want, even though I’m rather happy with my progress. I don’t think I’ll gather myself to write full reviews of these books, but I think I could write few sentences about them.

Dark Matter by Blake Crouch star-full-iconstar-full-iconstar-full-iconstar-full-iconstar-empty-icon

dark-matterA curious book that I was afraid to pick up because of all the fans out there that would kick my ass if I didn’t like it :P. Well… probably not, but you know how it is, right?

Anyway, It was very good. I loved the idea and this story had plenty of thrilling moments, parts that made me wonder “what if” that I simply can’t ignore it. So why not five stars? Maybe it was the writing style? Maybe the events annoyed me a bit a few times, but I can still say this book is worth reading and I could recommend it to sci-fi fans and to those who ever wondered what might’ve happened. Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Villains

imgresLast day of the month and the topic is – Villains! All there annoying, evil, plotting baddies out there. The ones that want to take over the world, destroy it, steal everything, manipulate others. The ones that we hate or the ones that we just can’t help but like even with everything they’ve done. What are your chosen baddies?

5. Islington

A certain angel from Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. And if you haven’t read this story yet then this is a spoiler, but seriously you had plenty of time to do so by now :P.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the idea of an imprisoned angel who plots to get out. Aaaand if you listened to the BBC adaptation Islington was played by Cumberbatch and it was AWESOME!
