BBC Thursday 5th of January

BBC_Radio_logoNew year, new BBC dramatizations to listen to, or so it seems :P.

Today’s list will be a bit long, but I just can’t skip any of these. There will be some mystery, some classic, a bit of fairy dust and some curious lands.

1. Sherlock Holmes: The Game’s Afoot

Hear the evidence gathered clue by clue – as Sherlock Holmes enthusiast, Nick Utechin investigates how the Baker Street sleuth has been portrayed on radio across the decades.

BBC Thursday 24th of November

BBC_Radio_logoI’m back with few interesting stories you might want to listen. You might already know them, but maybe it’s an occasion to remind yourself what happened, listen to some nice adaptations and British accents :).  We’ve got one short continuation of a certain Gaiman story and two classics.

1. How the Marquis Got his Coat Back by Neil Gaiman

The Marquis de Carabas has been having a rather stressful time of it. Being killed by the villainous duo Vandemar and Croup, having his body sold by the sewer people, and brought back to life with the aid of Old Bailey is enough to test the endurance of most people. But as if that isn’t bad enough, the Marquis has lost his coat. It’s not just any old coat. It is mysterious and unique and makes him the man he is. And he wants it back.

I had no idea this story existed until yesterday when I was checking out some new, curious dramas. I love Neverwhere and Marquis is such an interesting character. I’m sure listening to this one within the next few days :).

BBC Thursday – 27th of October

BBC_Radio_logoToday’s the pre-scarry edition. Since it’s almost Halloween and all the creepy tales are crawling into the radio and yet there are still few interesting tales that won’t make you look under the bed searching for monsters, I’ve decides to split my BBC post to two parts this week.

Today I’ll give you a few tales that I liked or that seem interesting and during the weekend I’ll write a special creepy edition ;). I’ve got a few dramas already chosen for that one!

1. 1963 – Fanfare for the Common Men by Eddie Robson

The Fifth Doctor first fetched up on Earth in the 1960s – but what does he make of that decade’s greatest musical contribution, the Beatles?

It turns out the Time Lord is a big fan. His young companion Nyssa, however, is unfamiliar with all the fuss over Earth’s musical heritage – so a trip to Fab Four’s formative days is in order.

Yet the Beatles are nowhere to be seen and their role in history has been taken by another group…

First and obviously one that I couldn’t skip – another Doctor Who! Well, I admit this one wasn’t my favorite, but if you love the series you should at least give it a try :).

On a side note – if you’re in dire need of some awesome graphic novels the HumbleBundle currently has Doctor Who set in offer! It’s like a Halloween gift!

BBC Thursday – 6th of October

BBC_Radio_logoAnother three weeks had passed since my last BBC post but, to be honest, I haven’t listened to it much lately. Not many dramas caught my attention and I had some other really good things to listen and watch :D.

But it seems autumn brings some interesting dramas with it. I might’ve listed some of them already at some point, after all, BBC does replay them from time to time (which is also one of the reasons I haven’t listened to it lately). These are three dramas I’ve listened to some time ago. All of them based on fantastic stories.

1. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick

In post-war 1992 androids are becoming indistinguishable from human beings, even in their capacity to love, and bounty hunter Rick Deckard is tasked with locating and retiring a rogue group of escaped androids who have fled a life of slavery and returned to Earth.

Let’s start with a bit of Sci-Fi awesomeness – whoever read it knows it’s good, whoever watched Blade Runner (and you all should!) should also have a look at the original story. The dramatization takes only two hours, but I’d suggest you check it out even if it’s still not the book.
