Indian legends, ghosts and space pirates – graphic novel mash-up

Today I’m bringing you three graphic novels I read at some point last year and was meant to review aaaaages ago. Again it’s a set of shorter-than-usual reviews, so not to bore you too much :P.

It will be a weird set starting with some tales from legends with a strong heroine on the lead, moving through contemporary and supernatural ghost hunting story and ending with a sci-fi pirates on an awesome space ship!

The Legend of Bold Riley by Leia Weathington

I bought this comic because it promised to combine this lovely, colorful graphic you can see on the cover and the myths and tales from Indian culture.

Well, the second one did deliver and I really liked that since I don’t have many occasions to read about this culture and it seems fascinating.

As for the graphic – the comic is split into several stories that combine into one journey and each story is drawn by a different person and well… some of them were kind of strange and not exactly what I’d like. Still, it was worth the money.

This one was the only bought graphic novel from the bunch. The next two were received from the publishers in exchange for honest reviews.

Ghostbusters: Who Ya Gonna Call? by Erik Burnham, Dan Schoening

First of all the graphic inside looks better than the cover, so that was the good part. You’ll see all the ghosts, some new and some old characters and plenty of women.

The story was also fine, maybe not amazing, but still enjoyable to the point. Kind of a letdown in the end, but still a bit fun.

What was really missing was the whole Ghostbusters humor. There were bits and pieces, but really not what you’d expect from the real Ghostbusters.

To end this post on a positive note I’m giving you SPACE PIRATES!

A surprisingly great novel about a bunch of criminals on a path to save themselves, their families and to bring justice. You’ll see space battles, interesting characters with special abilities, great action scenes, and curious planets the heroes will visit. A beginning of space opera that I’ll gladly read on because it was quite a page turner with good graphic and… well, pretty much all the goodies you’d like in a good graphic novel.
