Audio Thursday 15th of December

Another Thursday and another week closer to Christmas :D. And surprisingly, I haven’t heard “Last Christmas” playing yet… strange. No matter, it will be going through my head now anyway.

But I was going to write a bit about my last audio finds – the books from Playster and the BBC dramas I’ll be listening to soon.

A Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan – DNF at ~40%

a-natural-history-of-dragonsI really hoped this one will be good, or interesting or maybe exciting, but the truth is it wasn’t. The idea was great – memoirs of a woman learning about dragons, tracking them, documenting her story. But I have few issues with this book. Continue reading “Audio Thursday 15th of December”

Audio Thursday

It’s funny what you can find among the Black Friday deals. I was browsing the net, searching for some maybe-to-be gifts and I stumbled upon two pages offering audiobooks and ebooks for such a low monthly pay that it seems like a crime. Add to that a test period of 14-30 days and you can have plenty of reading material to last throughout these long winter evenings. Both of these come with a phone app so you can take your books with you wherever you want.

playsterPlayster

I’ve started using https://www.playster.com/. It has a 30-day trial period and besides books, you can also watch movies and listen to music. There are plenty of new and old books there. I’ve already listened to “Dark Matter”, I’m working my way through “Mogworld” and I have plenty of books in my queue :P. Both the app and the page itself have some good and bad sides. BBC Thursday 24th of November

BBC_Radio_logoI’m back with few interesting stories you might want to listen. You might already know them, but maybe it’s an occasion to remind yourself what happened, listen to some nice adaptations and British accents :).  We’ve got one short continuation of a certain Gaiman story and two classics.

1. How the Marquis Got his Coat Back by Neil Gaiman

The Marquis de Carabas has been having a rather stressful time of it. Being killed by the villainous duo Vandemar and Croup, having his body sold by the sewer people, and brought back to life with the aid of Old Bailey is enough to test the endurance of most people. But as if that isn’t bad enough, the Marquis has lost his coat. It’s not just any old coat. It is mysterious and unique and makes him the man he is. And he wants it back.

I had no idea this story existed until yesterday when I was checking out some new, curious dramas. I love Neverwhere and Marquis is such an interesting character. I’m sure listening to this one within the next few days :).

BBC Halloween special

BBC_Radio_logo Look at that it’s already Sunday. But the good thing is – I’ve got a free day tomorrow! No Monday this week :D. It’s even better when you’ll think about this stupid time change (although I did sleep an hour longer today and I really needed that).

Anyway, I’ve promised you some creepy BBC stories and here they come. Some will be available today evening or even tomorrow, but hey, at least you’ll have something to look forward to!

1. Concrete Island by J.G. Ballard

This was the first story by Ballard I’ve heard and damn that creeped me out. It seems so surreal and yet like something that might actually happen! Freaky. It’s not a horror, it’s a thriller that will get into your head and stay there. Beware of the motorways ;). Continue reading “BBC Halloween special”
