Are you hungry for some Doctor Who stories?

You’d think as a Doctor Who fan I’d read tons of books by now, right? Wrong. I did read some graphic novels, but no actual book. Till now. Well… I was actually under impression that it will be a graphic novel since it was categorized as such on NetGalley.

If you ever wondered what would happen if the Doctor landed in America, here are few stories that could show you just that.

All That Glitters   ★★☆☆☆

For a start, we’ve got a wild wild west story about a man possessed, an alien wanting more than he should and a seemingly-random hero who saves the day.

That was a rather weak opening for this story set. The plot was fine, but it felt like you could just switch the Doctor for any other character and it would work anyway. I do like wild wild west setting and I was rather hoping for something more interesting. Continue reading “Are you hungry for some Doctor Who stories?”

BBC Thursday – 1st of September

BBC_Radio_logoAs promised last week – proper links to two shows I rather enjoyed and in addition one new drama. Only one, because nothing else caught my attention yet. Maybe next time.

In today’s drama’s we’ll solve a mystery with a famous Belgian detective, venture into space to visit the Red Planet and meet a mysterious beast.

1. Evil Under the Sun (Poirot) by Agatha Christie

Zut alors! Can’t a Belgian sleuth have a peaceful Devon holiday without getting embroiled in a murder?

Yup, yet another one of Agatha Christie’s stories. This time, Poirot tries to have some peaceful vacations but it’s just not meant to be.

Thieves, monsters and artifacts

Interested in some action, monsters and thievery? I’ve got something for you.

The Adventures of Basil and Moebius, Volume 3 Secret of the AncientsSecret of the Ancients (The Adventures of Basil and Moebius #3) by Ryan Schifrin, Larry Hama

My rating: star-full-iconstar-full-iconstar-half-full-iconstar-empty-iconstar-empty-icon

Goodreads | Amazon

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Goodreads blurb:

Alaric Moebius and Basil Fox are a pair of scoundrels tethered against their will to serve the mysterious and other-worldly billionaire known only as The Collector. After traipsing around the globe stealing ancient artifacts at his demand, they are desperate to find a way out of their curse, and it seems at long last they might have found their solution. Recorded on 13 ancient stone discs lies the secret history of The Ancients, a fabled race of godlike beings who may still be living among us. And The Collector may be the most dangerous one of them all! A high-thrills adventure spanning all four corners of the globe!”

This story is packed with action. From the first page, when our heroes are trying to escape from gang members, till the very end. As enjoyable as it was I wish I knew some more of the story. After all, it’s the third volume and since I haven’t read the previous two I can’t even tell you if the story holds or if there even is a story… With this amount of action, I have some doubts about it. The Dreadful Fate of Jonathan YorkThe Dreadful Fate of Jonathan York: A Yarn for the Strange at Heart by Kory Merritt

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Goodreads blurb:

Discover the horrible fate of Jonathan York as he sets out on his journey through a spooky forest with an alarming party of travelmates!

Jonathan York has led a boring life — a pointless degree from the community college, a lackluster job at the General Store, and never any desire for something more exciting. But when fate leaves him stranded in a sinister land, he finds himself seeking an adventure of his own. Along the way he encounters ghoulish thieves, ravenous swamp monsters, a dastardly ice cream conspiracy, and a necromancer bent on human sacrifice.

Let me start with few words about the graphic – it was fantastic! I loved it. It fitted perfectly, created a spooky mood, portrayed all the characters and monsters in this creepy, unnatural way that enhanced the reading experience. Even the text font looked great. Just look at these pictures:
