Keep it Fresh book Tag

Look at that, I still have some unanswered tags from aaaages ago it seems appropriate to dust them off as a part of some spring cleaning ;). Since It’s finally getting warm outside and I had a nice fruit-filled breakfast today I’m gonna go with the fruitiest tag there is. I’ve been tagged twice for this one by Syc and Mari. Big thanks to both of you for thinking about me!

The Rules

  1. Post the rules before starting and link back to this post as a reference for other bloggers.
  2. Part A: Answer each of the fruit questions (each fruit corresponds to a book!) & add pictures plus why you thought that particular book deserves that particular fruit if possible.
  3. Part B: Choose your favorite fruit (even if it is one of the fruits in part A). Come up with a question that we didn’t ask and answer it.
  4. Part C: Create your own smoothie from the fruits in Part A (imagine a Lemon-Tomato-Apple smoothie ~ yuck), and find a book that would correlate to your smoothie!
  5. Nominate as many and anyone that you think are deserving of this award but it would be nice if you nominated a minimum of 5!
  6. Notify your nominees of the nomination.
  7. The most important rule? Have fun and of course, keep it fresh!

The Fruits

Part A

1. Strawberries: Name the sweetest book you’ve read. (e.g. sweet in terms of the characters or if the story takes place in a sweet world… etc.)

I’ve got to say “Enchanted” because it’s so cute and sweet and adorable and I love it :).

2. Coconut: What is a book that you would bring on vacation with you to a tropical destination? (Or if you’re just relaxing at the beach…)

Last time I went to the beach with the “Complete Sherlock Holmes” book, so I guess I’d stay with the mysteries, but maybe go more “cozy”, like “Love in Time of Murder

3. Pineapple: What is a book that you didn’t think you would like by judging its cover/summary/the first few pages but started to grow on you?

I was very skeptic about “Ready Player One“. It’s not really my type of reads, so I’ve ended up with an audiobook, but I LOVED it! It was fantastically written and it had so many references that hit just the right spots 🙂

4. Orange: What’s the juiciest book you’ve read? (e.g. A book with tons of action, romance… etc.)

Hmm, I’m not much of a romance reader, so action it is ;). I think I’d go with a graphic novel here and the one that comes to my mind is “Death Vigil“. You can find my review on the blog if you want to 🙂

5. Watermelon: A watery book (e.g. There wasn’t tons of substance to the book/the details were just too watery…etc. Don’t get us wrong though, we love watermelons!)

Some of you might want to throw a watermelon at me after that one, but I can’t help that thinking “This Savage Song” belongs in here. It was nicely written, but there were so many things that were just… I don’t know, they missed some substance.

6. Dragon fruit: What’s the most unique book you’ve read? (e.g. Unique in writing style, characters, plot… etc.)

A crazy book with a weird alien idea that I totally loved – “Jam“. Read it, embrace it. Love it. Remember – never touch the jam! And having no job sometimes pays off 😉

7. Lemons: Name a book that made you feel sour. (e.g. The emotions were just sour, you just felt sour reading the book, or the book includes sour characters… etc.)

The only book I can think of that might slightly fit here (although it was more annoying that sour) would be “Sin Eather’s Daughter“.

8. Tomato: What is a wonderful book that you think should be more widely known? Or a fantastic author whom you think deserves more recognition? (Since some may not know that tomatoes are actually fruits!)

Pretty much anything by Jen Minkman because she can bring magic to life in a fantastic way and I loved it. For a bit of romance – try “Shadow of Time“, for a nice YA dystopia – check out “Tales of Skylge“.

9. Apple: Name a really stereotypical book of a certain genre just like apples which are typical fruits. In the end was that book good or not? (e.g. A very typical contemporary/fantasy book… etc.)

Since I love fantasy let’s put the very typical good vs evil story here: “Prophecies Awakening“. This book pretty much has all that you might think a fantasy book should have – various races, magic, dragon and ultimate enemy to fight off. I liked every bit of it :D.

10. Blueberries: Name a book that made you feel blue. (Any sad, depressing books that you’ve read?)

There’s one book that made me cry repeatedly – “Loneliness on the Net

11. Grapefruit: Any bitter books? (e.g. a book that was blue but MORE… Beautiful Creaturesdo you have any bitter resentments towards characters from a book? Any sour turned bitter emotions? Any uber-hateful villains?)

It’s been a while since I’ve mentioned “Beautiful Creatures“, so here it goes – that book that made me realize you still can be a reader even if you don’t read good books. It totally annoyed me and I pretty much hated all of it. Maybe except the magical library.

12. Jackfruit: Name the most physically heavy book that you’ve ever read. (Because jackfruits are pretty heavy fruits!)

That would be either Grimm fairy tales or Sherlock, I think Grimms had a bit more pages ;). Then again, I haven’t really finished any of these, so maybe I should go with “Stone of Tears” as these Polish editions have some really heavy paper.

13. Limes: Name a funny book that you’ve read because limes add flavor and so does humor with every book.

Well, I did mention Jam already and you all know I love The Martian, so let me remind you of this ridiculous and funny book I’ve read in 2015: “Otto Von Trapezoid and the Empress of Thieves“.

Part B

14. Mango: Sweet, juicy and tropical

Basically I’m going with one of my favorite series here for no particular reason 😛 – “Wolha Redna“. I love the magic, the unusual vampires and the romance. And Wolha is the best heroine!.

Part C

15. Fruit smoothie: Berry explosion – strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and any other you can think of – mix them up, add some yogurt and feel the goodness!

As for the book – that would be a tough one looking at the “Part A” descriptions, how do you mix cute, happy and cuddly with sad and sour… like lemon ice creams or jellybeans with sour centers… I need them now!

Oh, the book… how about “Heroes or thieves”. This book seems to have it all – fantastic moments that make you love the author and the sour ones that make you want to kick her ass… Sorry, but that is kind of true.
