Top 5 Wednesday – Current Favorites that Aren’t Books

imgresWell, since this week’s topic is supposed to be about something other than books I’ve decided to move on to my next favorite thing – food :D. I think a word of warning is in order – it’s going to be sweet. But it’s winter, it’s a perfect time for sweet and comfy meals, right? And no, there will be no exact recipes because I always forget to save them or write them down, but with a bit of search on the net you’ll be able to find the version that suits you best, or just do what I do – improvise :D.

Soup: sweet potato and coconut milk

It is sweet! And so good. I bet you can find a recipe for this kind of soup that will fit your needs. Mine had also some carrots, ginger and it was very thick. Like “the spoon almost stood in it” thick :P. It’s perfect for cold days and if you ever have enough of pumpkin soup.

Main dish: turkey stewed in oranges

Here’s an example of why I should actually write down some of my experimental recipes :P. But it was late and I needed something to eat for the next day and I had plenty of oranges… I just put the meat in a pot, added some butter,  sliced oranges, a bit of cinnamon and a spoonful of honey and I waited for it to bake. It was delicious! I don’t know if I can recreate it perfectly, but it will work 😛

Dessert: fruit and honey on toast

OK, maybe not completely a dessert, but I love it as a sweet and tasty snack. Basically, you just toast some bread, put a nice spoonful of honey all over it and add few pieces of banana or apple or pear or any other fruit you like. HEAVEN! And you can make an excuse “but I’m eating fruits”.

Tea: sherbet with red currant

A lovely mix of green leafy tea with some fruits and aroma. it’s AMAZING! and I’m totally in love with it. And you know what, even though it’s a green tea there’s not much bitterness to it (I don’t sweeten my tea by the way, I think it would be a crime to do so :P). And the red currants don’t make the tea sour either, but that’s probably because there are very few of them.

Party snack: puff pastry snails

Pretty much anything based on puff pastry, preferably spicy and with cheese. I love these little snail-like snacks, like these:

They are so easy to make and so tasty :D. I prefer the ketchup + cheese + ham version, although I’ve added some diced onion last time and it was perfect.

    1. oooh I know, it takes a lot of will for me to cook, even though I like it. Luckily we’ve got many food delivery people where I work, so I can eat a more-or-less homemade meal everyday 😛

  1. OMG, are you trying to kill me with craving food? I love all of those things, but especially puff pastry. My grandma makes THE BEST. They are filled with a nut mixture and have about the most perfect lemon glazing.
