Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Villains

imgresLast day of the month and the topic is – Villains! All there annoying, evil, plotting baddies out there. The ones that want to take over the world, destroy it, steal everything, manipulate others. The ones that we hate or the ones that we just can’t help but like even with everything they’ve done. What are your chosen baddies?

5. Islington

A certain angel from Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. And if you haven’t read this story yet then this is a spoiler, but seriously you had plenty of time to do so by now :P.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the idea of an imprisoned angel who plots to get out. Aaaand if you listened to the BBC adaptation Islington was played by Cumberbatch and it was AWESOME!

4. The Daleks

From all the Doctor Who audio books I’ve read in which they appeared :D. You have to admit Daleks are quite an enemy and it’s hard not to think of them while reading/listening/watching Doctor Who.

3. Man-eating Jam

A strange and unexpected “villain” from an even stranger sci-fi novel “Jam” by Yahtzee Croshaw. I’m currently listening to his other hilarious novel – “Mogworld” and it’s so much fun! But back to the evil alien jelly-o. It’s not really a “someone”, it’s just a thing that appeared on earth and now it swallows everything it touches. It’s a fantastic idea and I loved reading this story.

2. The other Jasons

In loved-by-many and I can now see why Dark Matter by Blake Crouch. I’ve finished listening to this book yesterday and even though I can’t say I’m in love with this book, I admit it’s a pretty great story and the idea of a villain (or villains) being the alternative version of the main character is rather wicked :).

1. Ilsevel

The fudging bitch-queen from J.J. Sherwood’s “Steps of Power”. How I have this slimy little cockroach hidden inside white dove’s shell. If there’s one villain out there that really plays on my nerves every single time he or she shows up, that’s her.
Well, there’s also Umbridge….

TV-Kitty-icon2How about your favorite baddies? Is there someone you love to hate? Some villains that really tickle your nerves? Someone you’d love to smash on sight?

‘Good’ villains are so much more difficult to write than heroes. Most of my favourites are in ‘classics’, like Inspector Fumero in ‘The Shadow of the Wind’ [positively evil!], Uriah Heep in ‘David Copperfield’ [despicable slimeball!] and Marissa Coulter on ‘His Dark Materials’ [not beyond redemption!]
