Top 5 Wednesday: Favorite Villains

imgresLast day of the month and the topic is – Villains! All there annoying, evil, plotting baddies out there. The ones that want to take over the world, destroy it, steal everything, manipulate others. The ones that we hate or the ones that we just can’t help but like even with everything they’ve done. What are your chosen baddies?

5. Islington

A certain angel from Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. And if you haven’t read this story yet then this is a spoiler, but seriously you had plenty of time to do so by now :P.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the idea of an imprisoned angel who plots to get out. Aaaand if you listened to the BBC adaptation Islington was played by Cumberbatch and it was AWESOME!

When Halloween meets Christmas

What do you do when you see a bookish version of one of your favorite movies? You reach for it and start reading hoping it will be good, which is exactly what I did when I’ve seen Nightmare before Christmas on NetGalley.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

If you know the movie [and you really should] you’ll know exactly what this manga is about. If however, for some strange reason, you have never heard of Nightmare before Christmas here’s what it is about:

Jack, the Pumpkin King, the scary master of Halloween is pretty much having a breakdown ;). By an accident, he discovers doorways to other holidays, especially the upcoming Christmas and decides it would be wonderful to change profession and become Sandy Claws (also known as Santa). Obviously, now everything goes according to plan [I sooo wrote that with a Corpse Bride tune in my head]. Continue reading “When Halloween meets Christmas”

BBC Thursday 24th of November

BBC_Radio_logoI’m back with few interesting stories you might want to listen. You might already know them, but maybe it’s an occasion to remind yourself what happened, listen to some nice adaptations and British accents :).  We’ve got one short continuation of a certain Gaiman story and two classics.

1. How the Marquis Got his Coat Back by Neil Gaiman

The Marquis de Carabas has been having a rather stressful time of it. Being killed by the villainous duo Vandemar and Croup, having his body sold by the sewer people, and brought back to life with the aid of Old Bailey is enough to test the endurance of most people. But as if that isn’t bad enough, the Marquis has lost his coat. It’s not just any old coat. It is mysterious and unique and makes him the man he is. And he wants it back.

I had no idea this story existed until yesterday when I was checking out some new, curious dramas. I love Neverwhere and Marquis is such an interesting character. I’m sure listening to this one within the next few days :).

Top 5 Wednesday: Books I Want to Re-Read

imgresOh dear, it’s been a while since my last T5W post. There are so many books I’d love to re-read, but I’m never able to find time for them. There’s always a new, shiny book waiting next to them and the curiosity of unknown usually wins ;). But these few titles are on my MUST-re-read list. It might take me some time to get to these, but this list used to be a bit larger ;). And I’ll skip the Harry Potter books since I’m actually reading the new, shiny illustrated editions as they come out. Well… within a year of publication anyway :P.

5. Master and MargaritaThe Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov

A good old classic and one of the few books I was made to read at school and actually enjoyed.
Why would I want to re-read it? Mainly because I want to know if the book is really something I liked or if I had a strange phase back then. Plus it has the cat-devil :D.
