Goodreads blurb:

More than anything, young Ho Yi wishes to become a Sun Dragon Rider, the courageous human guardians of the magnificent beasts that roam the sky and keep watch over the land. But confined to crutches, bullies giving him a hard time, and his parents being away at war, Yo Hi is up against almost impossible odds! Can he still keep hope alive, while suffering in his tiny village, to become the valiant hero only he feels he’s destined to become?

This is just a beginning of a story and it felt more like a prologue, a fast introduction to the world and some characters, but it all felt a bit vague and even chaotic.

What did I like?

  • Dragons that looked like these mythical Chinese ones, plus they were apparently eating some kind of crystals – a cool idea.
  • At some point there was a mentioning of a song that supposed to carry magic, I’d love to read more about it because it was very vague.
  • The setting – I like stories set in Asian-like setting, add to that a bit of magic or fantastic creatures and I’m in.

Top 5 Wednesday – Characters You WOULDN’T Want to Trade Places With

imgresThat must be the easiest Top 5 Wednesday I’ve seen. Seriously, it’s so easy to choose the characters that had some horrible time or a bad ending, people you wouldn’t want to replace in their stories.

Lord of the ringsFrodo from Lord of the Rings – say what you will, but I would not want to be him and suffer all that he had. You have to admire this little guy and his spirit to survive all of it. He might’ve ended up more or less well… I’d rather be Sam. His ending was way better and he didn’t have to carry that cursed ring.

Beware the cuteness

I thought after yesterday’s horror stories I’ll give you something cute and cuddly [and yet without penguins] to sort of keep the balance ;).

“Light” is a lovely adventure story about a little guy who journeys to find these little crystals his map shows. There will be monsters, friendship, unexpected meetings and a journey. Sort of like Hobbit, but cuter and with fewer dwarves ;). Just kidding here.

Let me just tell you one thing: this book is freaking ADORABLE! I loved every bit of it. From the very first pages that just begged to end up as a coloring book. Continue reading “Beware the cuteness”

Are you up for a little scare?

If you’re in a mood for a short and creepy reads I’ve got just the thing! Two 16-page reads, I’d say perfect for a fast read before sleep, but I don’t think I’d recommend these two as a bed-reads ;). Unless you want some nightmares to follow.

A couple travels to China during Ghost festival. It seems like a harmless holiday for them, but townspeople take things seriously and for a reason. It doesn’t take long for Ray and Lara to get into troubles. Continue reading “Are you up for a little scare?”
