BBC Thursday – 4th of August

BBC_Radio_logoThis week I’m giving you four sets of dramas. I want to give you something to listen to because I don’t know if I’ll be checking BBC for the next two weeks 🙂

This time, none of these is new to me. I’ve listened to them all and I might listen to them again if I’ll have time.

1. Earthsearch II – James Follett

Four million years ago, the crew of the starship Challenger abandoned their search for Earth and made their home on Paradise, the third planet of a solar system on the fringe of the galaxy. But now the crew’s settled life is soon to be shattered.

Episode 7 | Episode 8 | Episode 9 | Episode 10Goodreads

Day left: 20
Duration: 30 min | 10 episodes
Rating: ★★★★☆

I know this is a sequel, but you won’t get lost without listening to the first story. It’s still exciting and curious. Check what new adventures await the interplanetary settlers.

2. The Price of Fear – Vincent Price

Horror film legend Vincent Price gets a chilling invitation to a very special costume party.

BBC Come as You Are | The Specialty of the House

Day left: 26
Duration: 30 min | 2 episodes
Rating: ★★★★★

Now this is something for people who like thrilling stories. If you’re easily scared and if a story can keep you awake at night – avoid the Prince of Fear. But if you like a good chilly story once in a while – this is just the thing for you.

3. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy – Douglas Adams

Arthur Dent is trying to stop his house being demolished to make way for a by-pass. But his friend, Ford Prefect (who hails not from Guildford, but somewhere near Betelgeuse), is more concerned about the imminent destruction of the Earth. Ford is a writer for the Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, “the most successful book ever to have come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor” and he may just know how to avoid being evaporated by the Vogons…

Well, I might not be a big fan of the book, but this audio drama is just the thing I like listening to. It has the humor and the ridiculousness of the book, the adventure, and all the great characters.

4. The Little World of Don Camillo – Giovanni Guareschi

Dramatisation of Giovanni Guareschi’s stories about the rivalry between a communist mayor and a priest in a postwar Italian town

BBC Episode 1 | Episode 2 | Episode 3 | Episode 4Goodreads

Day left: 29
Duration: 30 min | 4 episodes
Rating: ★★★★☆

If you’re in a mood for something funny and with a religious twist this is just the thing. These stories always make me smile. The situations, the thoughts and even the voice of God reprimanding the priest.

Happy listening!

  1. I very much enjoyed listening to the first episode of The Hitchhiker’s Guide. Sheer nostalgia for me. I probably ought to let you know too that I spent yesterday evening watching the first six ever episodes of DR Who!
