Funny Friday – actors, magic and a dragon

I wonder, should I start with the Polish book today or with the series that might be more interesting to all of you English speakers ;). I don’t want to lose your interest, so I’m guessing the latter.

Charles Paris mysteries – BBC drama

author: Simon Brett
dramatized by Jeremy Front
Goodreads | BBC radio

These stories never failed to make me laugh. It’s not a humor for everyone. The main character is selfish, easily annoyed, sarcastic and apparently bored with everyday life. And he has a funeral march mp3 set as a ringtone for a certain person. Love that 😀

The mysteries are rather light, the won’t break your mind when you’ll try to figure it out. I’m guessing books do a better job here than dramatizations, but they are still enjoyable.

I really liked the covers for books 1-9 – the ones with curtain and scene. They were good and relevant, but obviously, someone thought it a grat idea to change them and now each one is different (see bellow). Ah well, the BBC usually shows the photo of the actor playing Charles.

Corporate Bodies (Charles Paris #14) Sicken and So Die (Charles Paris #16) A Decent Interval (Charles Paris #18)

Currently, BBC has no episodes online, but they might come back. They do once in a while. And here’s where you can find them: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00x94yv/episodes/guide

My ratings and list of stories I’ve listened to:

  • Cast, in Order of Disappearance ★★★★☆
  • An Amateur Corpse ★★★☆☆
  • The Dead Side of the Mike ★★★★☆
  • Murder Unprompted ★★★☆☆
  • Murder in the Title ★★★★☆
  • Corporate Bodies ★★★★☆
  • Sicken and So Die ★★★☆☆
  • A Decent Interval ★★★★☆

As you can see my ratings vary between 3 and 4 starts. It’s not bad for series so long.

Czarem i smokiem
With Spell and Dragon by Romuald Pawlak

original title: Czarem i smokiem

Oh yes, I did have a good laugh while reading this one. I know Goodreads rating doesn’t seem appealing, but most of the Polish-only books have a low rating. I find it fascinating. It’s like only the ones that don’t like the books rate them there.

But I should probably start with the story.
It’s about a mage. Not a very good one, only the third cathegory and only dealing with weather (if he’s lucky enough to influence it). No wonder they threw him out of the academy. He’s trying to make living with his magic, but he makes the wrong people mad.
Then there’s a dragon. A very peculiar one, who changes its size depending on the mood.

In this story, you’ll get some magic, adventure, strange dragon and even some pirates. Nice read during travel – light and easy with plenty of humorous situations.

I haven’t yet decided what will I write about next week. I’ve got a huge series, a smaller one, a trilogy and a single book on my mind. I might go with one of the series or mix and match a bit. I guess you’ll have to wait and see 🙂
