Funny Friday – army men, cupcakes and knitting

Today it will be one BBC drama series and a spotlight for a certain author that made me fall in love with cozy mysteries. Yes, I liked them before, but never that much!

Dad’s Army

This is an unusual drama, not book related but based on a British sitcom. If you’re in need of some British humor with a bunch of men trying to protect their town during war – here’s something for you.

Unfortunately, I missed the airing this year because it looks like there’s still the last episode available online, but you can always find it in a different source or even buy it if you want.

Anyway, this is a typical British comedy with all the ridiculousness you might expect, the bits of reserved humor and funny situations. The “army” contains men of all ages, most of them not suitable to wear a uniform. Most of them with a standard day job. They seem to have no training, no discipline and no proper authorities to keep them in line. What might this bunch of men do when the Germans attack?

Murder, Mystery & Dating Mayhem Love in the Time of Murder Never Trust a Skinny Cupcake Baker

D.E. Haggerty

Now that’s an author that will make you laugh! Her stories are fantastic, humorous, a bit romantic and with a hint of mystery. Well, more than a hint :D. I’ve read three of her books and I intend to read more [which reminds me I need to get the second knitting detectives book :P].

If you’d like to read my full reviews of each of these books, here are the links:

These stories are rather short, if you have time or are a fast reader you can easily read one a day… or all of them as they are rather hard to put down :D. These books are packed with funny situations, interesting and unique characters that you can’t help but love (even if at first they seem a bit pushy and controlling). The mysteries will keep your mind busy and might even give you a bit of a chill.

If I were a situational reader I’d say these stories are perfect vacation reads – light and funny, an entertaining companion for a journey or a lazy day at a beach [becareful with the drinks, you don’t want to burst out laughing while drinking].

That’s it for today. I hope you’ll take my advice and check some of these stories and if you do – remember to tell me what you thought about them 🙂

Next week – another BBC drama with an actor who just happens to be stepping into some mysteries from time to time and a bit of a Polish touch – a fantastical comedy with a peculiar wizard.

  1. Thanks for mentioning my books on your blog. I just sent the 2nd book in the Death by Cupcake series off to the editor last week (before going on a mini-break to the Turkish cost). More murder & cupcakes are on the way 🙂
