Top 5 Wednesday – Favorite Diverse Characters

imgresYet again I had to check the oh-so-helpful Goodreads lists to see what books I could use for my Top 5 Wednesday. Now I know how little books I’ve read with diverse characters and how little there actually are, at least among my preferred reading genres.

5

Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones. The second book in Howl’s moving castle series. This time story goes around Abdullah and it has all that this kind of story should have: a princess, a flying carpet, djinn and lots of magic. And yes, Howl and Sophie do show up at some point, but most of the story goes on without this fantastic couple.

4

Shadow of Time by Jen Minkman. An unusual romance with a paranormal twist where a woman meets a certain young native boy and they slowly fell in love.

The thing is it’s not the first time these two met. It seems the history finally decided to catch up with them and not only bring them together but also finalize some old curses.

3

Angelfall by Susan Ee. I do like books with angels in them. Especially the ones that show them as kick-ass warriors, not as pretty, dressed in white do-gooders.

Angelfall is simply awesome. The brutality of the was, the angels and demons and a normal human heroine on a path to survive and save her family, it all makes a great story.

2

The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare. What you get when you write stories about the best character from shadow hunter’s world? One of my favorite books that’s what!

I could write a sentence [or a whole post] about this book, but I’d rather go fangirl a bit away from my computer 😛

Cinder by Marissa Meyer. Do I really have to explain why this book is great and you should read it?

I like a good fairy tale retelling and this one is fantastic. The idea of cyborgs, Lunars, the plague it’s all great. This book is filled with fascinating characters and even that it’s based on a well-known tale, you can’t expect to know everything that will happen here.

 Today’s bonus round:

Top 6 books with diverse characters I’d like to read:

Obviously a continuation of those series I’ve mentioned above as I read only first books from Lunar Chronicles, Penryn and Shadow of Time. Other than that here’s my top 6 books I’d love to read. And why 6? Because I couldn’t decide which one to remove from this list to make it 5 😛

Coldest girl in town Seraphina Poison study Daughter of smoke and bone Un lun dun American Gods

Ooh I only know of Magnus and Cinder. But they’re great. Oh and one other thing – how do you get that star vote-y thing at the bottom that you have?
